Assam Congress chief questions credibility of projections, asserts growing support for Congress amid internal discontent in BJP ranks

Guwahati: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Gaurav Gogoi dismissed exit poll projections as unreliable, arguing that they are increasingly driven by viewership concerns rather than ground realities. He said such forecasts have lost credibility and require “serious introspection” from those producing them.
Gogoi emphasised that public sentiment on the ground differs significantly from what is being portrayed. He suggested that political dynamics in the state are undergoing a shift, with sections of leaders and workers within the BJP and its allies allegedly reconsidering their positions.
According to him, there are indications of growing dissatisfaction within the ruling camp. “We are receiving calls from people who say they are unwilling to continue under the current leadership,” he stated, adding that this reflects a broader change in political alignment.
Furthermore, Gogoi claimed that this internal churn has already translated into movement towards the Congress. He maintained that both party workers and allied groups are gradually gravitating towards the opposition, signalling a potential shift in voter behaviour ahead of the results.
Consequently, the Congress leader expressed confidence that the final outcome will diverge from exit poll predictions. He reiterated that electoral verdicts should be determined by actual votes rather than pre-result projections, underscoring that the “real picture” will only emerge on counting day.
