Residents can submit household details online until August 16, while the Housing Census will be conducted from August 17 to September 15

Guwahati: Assam will begin the self-enumeration phase of Census 2027 on August 2, with residents able to submit their household details digitally until August 16, the Directorate of Census Operations announced on Saturday.
Addressing a press conference, Director of Census Operations Biswajit Pegu said the exercise would not commence immediately in two flood-affected districts of Upper Assam due to the prevailing flood situation.
The Housing Census will be conducted from August 17 to September 15, during which enumerators will collect information on housing conditions, household assets and basic amenities.
The Census will cover 35 districts, 166 sub-districts and 26,236 villages across Assam. Officials said 59 Master Trainers have already been trained, while the questionnaire will comprise 33 questions on demographic and household details.
Pegu said citizens can complete self-enumeration through the official portal or smartphones in 16 languages, including Assamese, and assured that all data would remain confidential and be stored securely at the National Data Centre. Residents can also seek assistance through the dedicated toll-free helpline 1855.
