Barpeta Imposes 4 PM Ferry Curfew After Bohori Ghat Collision Injures 15

The district administration has ordered all government and private ferry services to stop by 4 pm, citing safety risks from poor visibility, winter fog and adverse weather

Barpeta: The Barpeta district administration has restricted all government and private ferry services to operate only until 4 pm daily following a boat collision at Bohori Ghat that left 15 people injured.

The order, issued by District Commissioner Nabadeep Pathak under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, took immediate effect and will remain in force until further notice.

Under the directive, ferry operators and boat owners must complete their final trips and suspend passenger services by 4 pm. Operating beyond the deadline will require prior approval from the competent authority.

The administration cited reduced visibility, winter fog and other navigational hazards as key concerns during evening and night operations. Ferry operators and lessees have also been directed to ensure that passenger vessels hold valid licences and meet prescribed safety requirements.

Authorities have been instructed to monitor ferry ghats and enforce the restrictions strictly. Services must also be suspended during heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, strong winds, poor visibility or official weather warnings.

The administration warned that violations or negligence in implementing safety measures could invite legal action under the Disaster Management Act and other applicable laws.
