Defence limits Siddhartha Sharma’s role to event management as prosecution contests claims, verdict due May 2

Guwahati: Proceedings in the high-profile death case of the late singer Zubeen Garg proceeded on Tuesday, as the Guwahati fast-track court heard detailed arguments on the bail plea of the prime accused Siddhartha Sharma, who previously served as the singer’s manager. The court subsequently reserved its order, which is set to be delivered on May 2.
Appearing for Sharma, the defence argued that his role was strictly limited to handling the artiste’s professional commitments, “He was responsible for organising shows and coordinating programmes, not personal security.” The counsel submitted, asserting that holding him accountable for the singer’s safety would be unjust.
However, the prosecution strongly opposed this claim, questioning the attempt to distance Sharma from the responsibility. It maintained that the circumstances of the case require closer scrutiny of all involved.
Advocate Pradipta Talukdar, representing Garima Saikia Garg, confirmed that the arguments on the bail plea had concluded. The advocate stated, “Today, the court completed the hearing for Siddhartha Sharma’s bail plea. The court has reserved its verdict in the matter and will deliver it on May 2.”
Meanwhile, in addition to Sharma’s plea. The court will also hear charges on May 2 against two accused, Paresh Baishya and Nandeswar Bora, who served as the personal security officers. Proceedings for the remaining accused will follow.
Furthermore, former bandmate Partha Goswami renewed calls for justice. He stressed that Zubeen Garg’s contributions deserve wider recognition, stating, “His work should be included in school curriculum so future generations understand his legacy.”
