Phase I to begin July 17 with self-enumeration; house listing and data collection to go paperless

Agartala: Tripura has stepped up preparations for Census 2027, with nearly 11,000 enumerators and supervisors set to be deployed for the statewide exercise. Director of Census Operations Ratan Biswas said the process will be conducted entirely in digital mode, marking a major shift from previous censuses.
A high-level review meeting held at Pragna Bhavan brought together District Magistrates, Collectors and Sub-Divisional Magistrates to finalise the roadmap. The conference, organised by the Directorate of Census Operations, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the state’s Directorate of Economics and Statistics, focused on coordination, timelines and technology use.
According to officials, Phase I will run in two stages. Citizens can opt for self-enumeration from July 17 to July 31, followed by field visits by enumerators from August 1 to August 30. “The entire process will be digital, with data uploaded directly through mobile devices,” Biswas said, adding that no paper forms or signatures will be required.
Authorities also reviewed tools such as CMMS dashboards, HLBC systems and mobile applications to enable real-time monitoring. Training programmes will continue alongside the exercise to ensure smooth execution.
Officials noted that District Magistrates will act as Principal Census Officers, while Additional District Magistrates and SDMs will assist in implementation.
Phase II is expected next year. The data collected is likely to provide key insights into housing, infrastructure and demographic patterns, helping shape future policy decisions at both the state and national levels.
