TTAADC Village Elections: 10,936 Candidates File Nominations Across 52 Blocks

Over 10,900 candidates file nominations across 52 blocks for the September 28 Village Committee elections in Tripura

Agartala: The electoral contest for the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Village Committee elections has taken shape, with 10,936 candidates filing 10,958 nomination papers across 52 blocks.

According to preliminary figures released by State Election Commissioner Dr Pradip Kumar Chakraborty, Tipra Motha has emerged with the highest number of candidates at 4,371. The CPI(M) follows with 2,484 candidates, while the BJP has fielded 1,974.

The IPFT has submitted nominations for 486 candidates, followed by the Congress with 466. The CPI has four candidates, while 1,151 candidates have filed nominations under various other categories. Chakraborty said the final consolidated figures are yet to be compiled as the nomination process concludes.

Polling will be held on September 28 across 587 Village Committees, covering 2,634 constituencies and 4,597 seats. The nomination papers will undergo scrutiny on September 9, while candidates can withdraw their nominations until September 11.

The large number of candidates has set the stage for a closely contested battle across Tripura’s tribal areas, with major political parties and regional forces vying for influence in the grassroots-level elections.
