IPFT Leader Allegedly Attacked by Tipra Motha Supporters Ahead of Tripura Village Polls

IPFT condemns alleged assault on General Secretary Swapan Debbarma, urges alliance partners to maintain peace during the election process

Agartala: Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) General Secretary Swapan Debbarma was allegedly attacked by supporters of the Tipra Motha Party at Hezamara on September 8 while travelling towards Khowai district, amid preparations for the Village Committee elections.

Both IPFT and Tipra Motha are alliance partners of the ruling BJP in Tripura. Tripura Cooperative Minister and IPFT leader Shukla Charan Noatia condemned the alleged assault, describing it as a “brutal attack” and saying he was deeply shocked by the incident.

Noatia said political violence was unacceptable, particularly when the three parties are contesting the upcoming Village Committee General Election as alliance partners.

He urged workers and supporters of the BJP, IPFT and Tipra Motha to exercise restraint and preserve the unity of the alliance during the electoral process. “Such acts of aggression directly undermine the very spirit of our unity,” Noatia said, calling for an immediate end to political violence.

He also appealed to all political parties to ensure a peaceful and democratic atmosphere, stressing that political differences should not turn violent. The circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and the identities of those involved are expected to be established through further investigation.
