The CPI(M) leader alleged the Council has remained inactive despite Tipra Motha’s electoral victory and questioned its handling of tribal welfare
Agartala: Former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar criticised the Tipra Motha Party over the functioning of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), alleging that it has failed to address the concerns of indigenous communities despite securing a decisive electoral mandate.
Addressing a public gathering, Sarkar questioned the effectiveness of the Council, saying, “Where is the TTAADC? It exists only in name.” He alleged that although Tipra Motha won 24 seats in the TTAADC elections and returned to power, it had failed to constitute a functional working committee or announce any major development initiatives.
The veteran CPI(M) leader claimed the Council had remained largely inactive, alleging there was “no work, no employment and no food” in several tribal areas. He further claimed that extreme poverty had forced some families to sell their children, while many indigenous youths had migrated outside the state in search of jobs, with some reportedly losing their lives.
Sarkar accused the TTAADC administration of neglecting the problems faced by indigenous communities and urged those who supported Tipra Motha to reflect on the party’s performance.
He also alleged that the party had betrayed the trust of tribal communities by prioritising its own interests over issues such as unemployment and poverty. There was no immediate response from the Tipra Motha Party to the allegations.
