Eight more accused have been arrested in connection with the November 2 attack on BSF personnel near the India-Bangladesh border in Sepahijala district

Agartala: The number of people arrested in connection with the attack on Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in Tripura’s Sepahijala district has risen to 18, including three women, police officials said on Friday.
Eight more accused were arrested during raids conducted across the district on Thursday night and early Friday in connection with the November 2 incident at Ashabari village near the India-Bangladesh border.
The attack occurred after BSF personnel intercepted suspected smugglers allegedly attempting to transport ganja across the international border. A mob of around 50 people reportedly surrounded and assaulted the personnel, leaving three BSF members, including a Company Commander, seriously injured.
The attackers also allegedly snatched a pump-action gun from a BSF personnel and damaged a security vehicle.
All 18 accused have been booked under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
Meanwhile, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha chaired a high-level security meeting with senior officials from the state administration and security forces to review the incident. He directed authorities to take stringent legal action and strengthen border security.
