Aizwal: Major political parties in Mizoram, including the ruling Zoram People’s Movement, Mizo National Front, Indian National Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party, have jointly sought stricter scrutiny of electoral rolls, action against fraudulent voter registrations and an extension of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) deadline.
The demands were made through a joint resolution adopted at an all-party meeting convened by the Mizo Zirlai Pawl in Aizawl. The parties pledged full cooperation to ensure the SIR exercise is conducted in a “fair, transparent and credible manner” and resolved not to assist unauthorised applicants seeking voter enrolment.
The parties also urged the Election Commission to extend the August 4 deadline, citing monsoon-related logistical challenges, difficult terrain and staff shortages.
According to the draft electoral roll published on July 4, Mizoram has 8,28,906 electors, including 4,29,881 women. Officials said 46,163 enumeration forms (5.28%) remained uncollected, including 21,295 deceased electors, 13,978 who had permanently shifted and 8,333 who were untraceable.
