In a letter to Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi, Sharma said a united platform of organisations should emerge through collective public efforts while the singer’s family focuses on the legal proceedings

Guwahati: Rahul Gautam Sharma has ruled out playing a mediating role in bringing together different groups campaigning for justice for late singer Zubeen Garg, but has offered to facilitate a meeting between the singer’s family and a united platform if such an initiative takes shape.
In a letter dated October 31 to Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi, Sharma acknowledged receiving Gogoi’s October 26 communication, which followed a resolution adopted at a public discussion organised by the Zubeen Garg Nyay Dabi Samiti at Zubeen Khetra on October 25.
Sharma said Zubeen’s family had already submitted a memorandum to the Governor seeking intervention in the justice process. He also noted that he had appeared before the fast-track court to testify, although his statement was yet to be recorded.
Maintaining that justice for Zubeen was a collective responsibility, Sharma said the family had repeatedly appealed for a peaceful, non-violent campaign free from political differences. He added that social leaders should take the lead in building a united movement from the grassroots.
Sharma urged caution to ensure public statements did not complicate the ongoing court proceedings. He also called on social leaders to sustain public pressure on the government to ensure accountability and justice for the singer.
