ATASU Intensifies Protest Against Encroachment at Historic Jamuna in Sivasagar

The students’ organisation staged a protest for the second consecutive day on October 30, demanding the removal of alleged illegal structures and restoration of the heritage site

Sivasagar: The All Tai Ahom Students’ Union (ATASU) intensified its campaign against alleged illegal encroachments at historic Jamuna in Sivasagar on Thursday, continuing its protest and eviction drive for the second consecutive day.

ATASU members gathered at the site in large numbers on October 30, demanding the immediate removal of alleged encroachments and the restoration of the historic landmark’s original character.

The organisation expressed concern that the growing occupation of the site could threaten its historical identity and long-term preservation. It called for the entire area to be cleared of encroachments to safeguard Jamuna’s historical and cultural significance.

ATASU maintained that protecting the site went beyond removing unauthorised structures, stressing that its preservation was essential to safeguarding Sivasagar’s heritage and legacy.

The campaign has drawn wider attention to heritage conservation in the district, with the future of the historic site emerging as a matter of public concern.

ATASU has urged the authorities to intervene and take necessary action to prevent further encroachment and ensure the preservation of Jamuna.
