“Intimidation Won’t Stop Me”: Tongam Rina Stands Firm on Siang Anti-Dam Activism

The Arunachal Pradesh journalist reaffirmed her support for Siang Valley protesters as press bodies condemned the inclusion of her name in a search warrant application linked to the Pasighat violence

Itanagar: Journalist Tongam Rina has vowed to continue her writing and activism after Arunachal Pradesh Police sought a search warrant against her in connection with the October 23 violence during protests against the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP) in Pasighat.

In a post on X, Rina questioned the police action against her and lawyer Sunny Tayeng, alleging illegal surveillance and calling the move an attempt at intimidation. She urged people not to lose focus on the anti-dam movement and reiterated her solidarity with activists in judicial custody.

“I have seen enough intimidation in my life, so this isn’t something that will stop me from writing or my activism,” she wrote, pledging continued support for the people of Siang Valley.

Rina also expressed solidarity with human rights lawyer Ebo Mili, whose hunger strike had entered its sixth day, and said resistance to the proposed dam would continue.

The Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) and the Arunachal Press Club (APC) condemned the inclusion of Rina’s name in the search warrant application linked to the Pasighat violence.
