Each beneficiary will receive Rs 50,000 through DBT under the third round of the second phase of the state’s handholding initiative
Aizwal: The Mizoram government has released Rs 3.41 crore to 683 beneficiaries in Aizawl district under the third round of the second phase of the Chief Minister’s Special Package of the Bana Kaih (Handholding) Scheme.
Each beneficiary, referred to as a Progress Partner, will receive Rs 50,000 through direct benefit transfer (DBT). The beneficiaries were selected from 12 departments covering sectors such as animal husbandry, horticulture, tourism, fisheries, sericulture, sports and commerce.
Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister PC Vanlalruata said the assistance is aimed at supporting farmers, labourers and small-scale entrepreneurs. He said beneficiaries were selected without considering political affiliation and warned that funds could be recovered if commitments were not fulfilled.
Aizawl Additional Deputy Commissioner Vanlalrova said the scheme was not intended as “free money” but as project-based assistance requiring proper planning and monitoring. Misuse or diversion of funds could lead to penalties and recovery.
The Bana Kaih scheme facilitates institutional credit and loans of up to Rs 50 lakh through three partner banks. The government has allocated Rs 350 crore for the scheme in 2026-27, including Rs 150 crore for crop procurement.
