Rumesh Pathirage stunned the field with an 89.75m throw, while Neeraj Chopra recorded a season-best 85.83m and Yash Vir Singh clinched bronze with a personal best
New Delhi: Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra won the silver medal in the men’s javelin throw after recording a season-best 85.83m, while Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage claimed gold with a stunning 89.75m effort.
Competing in chilly 14°C conditions, Pathirage seized the lead with his second-round throw, which remained unbeaten throughout the competition. India’s Yash Vir Singh secured bronze with a personal-best 85.41m on his sixth and final attempt, while Rohit Yadav finished seventh with 81.56m.
Speaking after the event, Chopra welcomed the result despite missing out on gold. “I am very happy… Yash Vir has done his personal best here, which was very important for him. I am always happy whenever the national anthem is played. But it’s ok to win silver, as I did my personal best and my comeback is getting better,” he said.
