The Chief Minister said a Rs 3-crore boundary wall project and landslide protection measures are already underway at the proposed cultural memorial site

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday visited the proposed ‘Zubeen Kshetra’ memorial at Komarkuchi in Sonapur and reviewed the progress of construction work at the site dedicated to Assamese music icon Zubeen Garg.
The visit came shortly after the Chief Minister assumed office for a second consecutive term, making it one of his first major cultural inspections after the swearing-in ceremony.
Speaking to reporters during the visit, the Chief Minister said the initial phase of development has already begun. “A boundary wall project worth around Rs 3 crore is currently under construction. At the same time, measures are being taken to protect the area from possible landslides,” he said.
The Chief Minister added that the main infrastructure work at the proposed Samadhi Khetra would proceed in a more organised manner once the boundary wall construction is completed.
Officials briefed the Chief Minister on the present status of the project and future plans for the memorial, which is being developed as a permanent cultural space honouring Zubeen Garg’s contribution to Assamese music and identity.
The government envisions the memorial as a landmark dedicated to preserving the legacy of one of Assam’s most influential contemporary artists while also promoting the state’s cultural heritage.
Located on the outskirts of Guwahati, the project is expected to emerge as a major cultural site celebrating the life and work of the celebrated singer.
