Guwahati: Proceedings in the fast-track court hearing the alleged murder case of musician Zubeen Garg have been adjourned for one week due to the leave of the presiding judge, temporarily pausing the ongoing trial.
The scheduled hearing on Monday could not take place, resulting in the postponement of witness examinations. Among those expected to depose before the court were Dr Palmee Borthakur, sister of Zubeen Garg, and his close associate Jayanta Kakoti, whose testimonies are considered significant to the prosecution’s case.
Court officials said the adjournment is purely administrative and unrelated to the merits of the case. The fast-track court is expected to resume proceedings on July 13, when the pending witness examinations and hearings will continue.
The temporary suspension is likely to cause only a minor delay in the trial timeline. Legal authorities maintained that the proceedings would continue from the stage at which they were paused, with both the prosecution and the defence continuing to present evidence and arguments.
The fast-track court has been conducting the trial with the objective of ensuring a speedy judicial process while safeguarding the rights of all parties. The upcoming hearings are expected to focus on recording the statements of key witnesses, whose testimonies are considered crucial in establishing the sequence of events surrounding the case.
