Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also reviewed major infrastructure projects, including stadiums, the Assam State Zoo modernisation and the Guwahati Convention Centre

Guwahati: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday directed officials across Assam to intensify monitoring of essential commodity prices and take strict action against any abnormal increase in market rates.
Reviewing the state’s price monitoring mechanism, the Chief Minister instructed deputy commissioners to convene District Monitoring Committee meetings within the next three to four days. He also ordered mandatory display of wholesale and retail prices at shops and warned of strict penalties, including cancellation of trade licences, against violators.
“Our Government and administration is keeping a close eye on the market and will not allow any unfair price rise,” the Chief Minister said in a statement shared on social media. “I have instructed officials in every district to keep a tab on prices of items and take stringent actions against any defaulter.”
The government also directed weekly coordination meetings between district administrations, chambers of commerce and trade bodies, along with intensified field inspections to prevent unusual price escalation. Officials were further asked to expedite Aadhaar seeding of PM Ujjwala beneficiaries to eliminate duplication in LPG cylinder distribution.
In addition, the Chief Minister also reviewed the progress of several key infrastructure projects under the PWD (Building) department. These included the RG Baruah Sports Complex, Amingaon Stadium, 11 district stadiums, 40 mini stadiums, the Assam State Zoo modernisation project, Alaboi Smriti Kshetra, the Freedom Movement Park in Jorhat and Assam Houses in different state capitals.
The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s focus on modern infrastructure, sports development and preservation of Assam’s historical heritage.
