Rahul Gandhi stages a dharna at Parliament Street Police Station, demanding an FIR over alleged excessive force against student protesters
New Delhi: Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Friday staged a dharna at Parliament Street Police Station in New Delhi, demanding registration of an FIR over alleged excessive force used against student protesters during a July 20 demonstration over NEET irregularities.
Gandhi was accompanied by Sahil Lochab, a student who reportedly suffered a pellet injury during the protest march led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).
After police allegedly declined to register his complaint at Mandir Marg Police Station, Gandhi met the DCP (Central) before proceeding to Parliament Street Police Station, where he demanded to meet senior police officials.
The Congress has alleged that Rapid Action Force personnel used pellet guns during the July 20 ‘Sansad Chalo’ march. While Delhi Police has denied using pellet guns, accounts from injured protesters and medical reports have raised questions over the claim.
Gandhi has accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of being responsible for the alleged use of excessive force, saying, “We will not accept our own forces shooting at the future of India.” The Congress continues to demand an investigation into the alleged use of pellet guns and other force against the protesting students.
