Statewide survey from August 20 to September 23 will involve 2,862 surveyors to identify and mainstream out-of-school children
Guwahati: Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu on Thursday inaugurated ‘Shiksha Yatra: From Challenges to Aspirations’, a statewide initiative aimed at identifying, enrolling and mainstreaming out-of-school children (OoSC) during the 2026–27 financial year.
The programme was launched at Jyoti Bishnu Antarjatik Kala Mandir in Guwahati with the goal of ensuring that children who have dropped out or remained absent from school for extended periods are brought back into the education system.
Under the initiative, District Quality Managers and Education Volunteers of Samagra Shiksha Assam will track school dropouts and long-absentee children and facilitate their return to formal education.
Children requiring additional support will be linked with residential and non-residential Special Training Centres (STCs) and the Open School system, wherever necessary.
A statewide survey under the initiative will be conducted from August 20 to September 23, 2026, with 2,862 surveyors engaged across Assam to identify children who are currently outside the formal education system. Pegu said the government’s resolve was clear: “No child should be left behind or deprived of the right to education.”
The initiative seeks to bridge gaps in school enrolment and retention while creating pathways for children who have been disconnected from education to resume learning and work towards a better future.
