The NCISM has cleared Tripura’s proposal to establish an Ayurvedic medical college and hospital in Udaipur with 60 BAMS seats, marking a major boost for traditional medicine education in the state

Agartala: Tripura is set to establish its first government-run Ayurvedic medical college after the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) approved the state’s proposal to launch the institution in Udaipur, Gomati district.
Chief Minister Manik Saha announced that the proposed Tripura Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital has received approval to admit 60 students from the 2026-27 academic session.
According to official communication issued by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) under the NCISM, the application submitted by the Health and Family Welfare Department has been accepted for further processing under the provisions of the NCISM Act, 2020. The proposed institution will be located at Tepania in Udaipur and will offer the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) programme.
Sharing the development, Saha described the approval as a significant milestone for the state. “I am delighted to share that the NCISM has accepted our application for establishing the Tripura Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital,” he said.
The Chief Minister also thanked Narendra Modi for supporting efforts to strengthen healthcare and medical education nationwide.
Once operational, the institution is expected to expand access to Ayurvedic education, promote traditional systems of medicine and create new opportunities for students while enhancing healthcare services across Tripura.
