Assam Rifles and state police recover arms, ammunition, and suspected contraband during intelligence-led action in Khonsa

Khonsa: Acting on precise intelligence inputs, security forces carried out a coordinated operation in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district, leading to the arrest of three suspected insurgents linked to the NSCN-K (Nikki Sumi faction). The operation was conducted jointly by the Assam Rifles and Arunachal Pradesh Police in the Wancho Colony area of Khonsa.
During the action, the team apprehended three individuals identified as Wingan Agan (33), Jhonny Riba (21), and Rajapeyu Khechan Khetey (30). Officials confirmed that all three are believed to have connections with the banned outfit’s Nikki Sumi faction.
Subsequently, a search operation led to the recovery of two 7.65 mm pistols along with magazines, nine live rounds of ammunition, and three mobile phones fitted with SIM cards. In addition, security personnel seized three documents linked to the GPRN, indicating possible organisational activity.
Notably, a small quantity of suspected brown sugar, estimated to be worth around Rs 500, was also recovered from their possession, raising concerns about links between insurgent networks and illicit substances.
Following the operation, the arrested individuals and all seized materials were handed over to the Arunachal Pradesh Police in Khonsa for further legal action and investigation.
Officials stated that the operation highlights ongoing efforts to dismantle insurgent networks in Tirap, a region that has periodically witnessed militancy-related activities. Moreover, it reflects strengthened coordination between central forces and state police in maintaining law and order.
