Thancintuang alias Chintuang, accused in multiple methamphetamine and heroin trafficking cases across the Northeast, was arrested in Delhi after a sustained intelligence-led operation

New Delhi: Narcotics Control Bureau has arrested Myanmar-based drug trafficker Thancintuang, also known as Chintuang and Tluanga, in a major breakthrough against cross-border narcotics networks operating along the India-Myanmar border.
A resident of Chin State’s Bulfek region in Myanmar, Chintuang was arrested from Delhi following months of surveillance, interstate coordination and intelligence-based operations.
Investigators estimate that the syndicate linked to him handled narcotics operations worth nearly Rs 120 crore. Officials said he was involved in trafficking methamphetamine and heroin through Mizoram, Manipur, Assam and Tripura, with routes extending into Bangladesh.
Chintuang is the main accused in a 2024 NCB case involving the seizure of 14 kg methamphetamine and 2.8 kg heroin in Dulte, Mizoram, and another 2025 case linked to the recovery of 49.1 kg methamphetamine in Aizawl.
The NCB said the arrest is part of its “network-centric enforcement” strategy focused on dismantling entire drug syndicates and their financial systems, an approach strongly backed by Amit Shah.
Several associates linked to the network, including alleged hawala operators and logistics coordinators from Assam and Mizoram, have already been arrested, while multiple bank accounts and assets worth Rs 56 lakh have been frozen during the investigation.
