Newly formed government finalises ministerial responsibilities days after swearing-in, with Vijay directly overseeing administration, law and order, welfare and urban development

Chennai: C. Joseph Vijay has retained several high-profile departments, including Home, Police and Public Administration, after the Tamil Nadu government finalised portfolio allocations for ministers sworn in on May 10.
The distribution of departments was approved by Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar following recommendations made by the chief minister, marking a key administrative step for the newly formed government.
Apart from Home and Police, Vijay will also oversee Special Programme Implementation, Municipal Administration, Urban Water Supply, and welfare departments related to women, youth, children, senior citizens and differently abled persons. The allocation places some of the state’s most critical governance and public service sectors directly under his control.
Among other cabinet members, N. Anand has been assigned Rural Development and Water Resources, while Aadhav Arjuna will handle Public Works and Sports Development. Dr K.G. Arunraj received the Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare portfolio, whereas senior leader K.A. Sengottaiyan will manage Finance and pensions.
Additionally, P. Venkataramanan will oversee Food and Civil Supplies, and R. Nirmalkumar has been given Energy Resources and Law. The government also handed Industries and Investment Promotion to Selvi S. Keerthana, the youngest member of the cabinet.
With portfolios now finalised, the Vijay-led administration is expected to shift focus towards governance reforms and its upcoming Assembly session.
