Shubman Gill’s maiden ODI century as captain and Ishan Kishan’s hundred power India past 400 as the hosts take an unassailable 2-0 lead in Lucknow

Lucknow: Captain Shubman Gill continued his remarkable run with his first ODI century as skipper, guiding India to a commanding 170-run victory over Afghanistan in the second ODI at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow and securing an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Batting first, India piled up a mammoth 402, thanks to Gill’s masterful 154 and Ishan Kishan’s century, taking the hosts beyond the 400-run mark.
Afghanistan began the chase positively, with Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz putting on 52 runs for the opening wicket. Gurbaz looked dangerous during his 41 off 33 balls, but Gurnoor Brar provided the breakthrough.
The visitors struggled to keep pace thereafter despite Rahmat Shah’s fighting 79 off 89 balls and Sediqullah Atal’s 42. Afghanistan were eventually bowled out for 232 in 45 overs, handing India a comprehensive victory.
India’s bowling attack delivered collectively, with Arshdeep Singh and Gurnoor Brar claiming three wickets each, while debutant Prince Yadav picked up two wickets, including his maiden international scalp. Washington Sundar also chipped in with one wicket.
Gill’s brilliant century, combined with his calm leadership, earned him a second consecutive Player of the Match award, underlining his growing stature as India’s new ODI captain.
