Tournament from April 13–19 to serve as key platform for Youth Olympics and world-level selections

Guwahati: Guwahati is gearing up to host the 8th Men’s and Women’s National Youth Boxing Championship from April 13 to 19, drawing close to 800 participants, including athletes, coaches, and officials from across India.
The event, organised by the Assam Amateur Boxing Association in association with the Boxing Federation of India, will take place at Assam down town University in Sonapur.
Announcing the tournament, association secretary Hemanta Kumar Kalita said the championship holds significant importance as it will help identify talent for upcoming global events, including the Youth Olympics and World Championships. He added that competing on home turf could give Assam’s young boxers an added edge.
A total of 274 male and 240 female boxers have already registered across multiple weight categories. They will be supported by over 150 coaches and technical officials, ensuring a competitive and well-managed event.
State boxing association president Siddhartha Bhattacharya highlighted Assam’s strong boxing legacy, pointing to Olympians like Shiva Thapa and Lovlina Borgohain. He noted that hosting the championship reflects a larger push to nurture emerging talent and prepare athletes for international competition, including the 2028 Olympics.
Organisers have arranged accommodation and logistics within the campus, ensuring a smooth experience for all participants.
