Eid Spirit Lights Up Assam as Thousands Gather for Peaceful Celebrations

From Guwahati’s historic Eidgahs to major prayer grounds across the country, devotees marked Eid al-Adha with prayers, unity and festive gatherings under tight security

Guwahati: Eid al-Adha was observed peacefully across Assam and other parts of India on Thursday, with thousands of devotees assembling at mosques and Eidgahs for special prayers and traditional Qurbani rituals under heightened security arrangements.

In Assam, large congregations were witnessed in Guwahati, particularly at the historic Machkhowa Eidgah Maidan and Hatigaon, where worshippers gathered from early morning to offer Namaz and exchange greetings of peace and brotherhood.

Major Eid prayers were also reported from Nagaon, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Kokrajhar, Sipajhar, Jogighopa and several Barak Valley districts. In Nagaon, devotees participated in prayers at Anjuman Eidgah Maidan and multiple prayer grounds across Samaguri, Raha, Dhing and Rupahihat.

In Dhubri, MP Rakibul Hussain joined worshippers during the celebrations. Meanwhile, nearly 20,000 people reportedly gathered at the 400-year-old Mirjumla Eidgah in South Salmara-Mankachar district.

Authorities said many families followed government advisories during Qurbani by opting for goats, sheep and buffaloes instead of cows.

Elsewhere in the country, large gatherings were recorded at Jama Masjid and Fatehpuri Masjid in Delhi, while additional security deployments and route marches were conducted in sensitive areas across Uttar Pradesh and other states.

Despite heavy rainfall and waterlogging in some Assam-Meghalaya border areas forcing prayers to shift from Eidgahs to mosques, celebrations remained peaceful nationwide without any major untoward incidents.
