Assam Floods Show Further Signs of Receding: 62,443 Still Affected

Assam’s flood situation improved further on August 15, with 62,443 people affected across five districts and the death toll at 104

Guwahati: The flood situation in Assam improved further on Saturday, August 15, with the number of affected people falling to 62,443 across five districts, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

The death toll from this year’s floods remained at 104, with no fresh fatalities reported in the past 24 hours.

According to the latest ASDMA bulletin, 16 revenue circles and 235 villages in Golaghat, Hojai, Nagaon, Sivasagar and Jorhat remained affected by the floods.

Nagaon continued to be the worst-hit district, with 33,332 people affected, followed by Golaghat with 12,641 and Jorhat with 8,523. On Friday, seven districts were affected, with more than 78,000 people impacted.

Authorities are currently operating 28 relief camps, providing shelter to over 4,800 displaced people, along with nine relief distribution centres.

The floods have submerged 4,954.43 hectares of cropland, while more than 21,000 animals have been affected, including over 10,000 large animals and 3,500 poultry.

Damage to houses, cattle sheds, fisheries and health centres has also been reported across the affected districts.
