Assam’s Self Enumeration phase for Census 2027 concludes with 11.64 lakh households submitting details online, as the state begins its house-to-house census exercise

Guwahati: Assam has completed the Self-Enumeration (SE) phase of Census 2027, with 11,64,586 households submitting their details online before the exercise concluded on August 16.
Cachar, Sribhumi and Kokrajhar emerged as the top-performing districts, recording the highest participation in the state. Director of Census Operations, Assam, Biswajit Pegu, IAS, announced the completion at a press conference on Monday and thanked residents for their cooperation.
The next stage, the Houselisting and Housing Census, began across Assam on Monday and will continue until September 15. Trained enumerators will visit households to collect the required information.
Pegu said the exercise would adhere to the principle of “No Omission, No Duplication” while ensuring the confidentiality of information provided by residents. He also highlighted that census data is legally protected and cannot be admitted as evidence in a court of law under the Census Act, 1948.
State Nodal Officer Partha Pegu urged continued public cooperation during the house-to-house exercise. The Directorate of Census Operations has appealed to residents to assist enumerators and provide accurate information for complete coverage.
