Manipur CM Calls for Dialogue Between Meiteis, Kukis and Nagas to Restore Peace

Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh says reconciliation and cooperation among Meiteis, Kukis, Nagas and other communities are essential for restoring stability and driving Manipur’s development

Imphal: Reaffirming his government’s commitment to restoring normalcy, Manipur Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh said sustained dialogue remains the most effective way to address the state’s challenges and rebuild trust among communities.

Speaking at the inauguration of a new girls’ hostel at the Mission Blind School in Heikakpokpi, Tengnoupal district, Singh stressed that Manipur’s future depends on unity rather than ethnic divisions.

“If communities remain confined to their own interests and continue to stay divided, progress will remain out of reach,” he said, urging Meiteis, Kukis, Nagas and other groups to work together for a common future.

Highlighting Manipur’s shared heritage, the Chief Minister noted that the state’s identity and territorial integrity were shaped through the collective efforts of its 36 recognised communities. “This legacy belongs to all of us and must be preserved,” he added.

Singh also revealed that representatives from different organisations and communities regularly engage in discussions with the government to advance the peace process. While acknowledging that isolated incidents have slowed progress, he said signs of normalcy are gradually emerging across the state.

The Chief Minister warned that prolonged unrest has affected livelihoods, economic activity and education. Drawing attention to the importance of reconciliation, he maintained that “lasting solutions emerge through dialogue, not confrontation.”

Later, Singh said the newly inaugurated hostel would strengthen educational support and accommodation facilities for visually impaired students.
