Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh says repeated blockades disrupt livelihoods and economic activity while inaugurating a bridge in Imphal West

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh appealed to citizens to choose dialogue and mutual understanding over bandhs and blockades, stating that prolonged shutdowns ultimately cause hardship for ordinary people and daily wage earners.
Speaking during the inauguration of an RCC bridge over the Nambul River at Akham Mayai Leikai in Imphal West district, the Chief Minister said public protests driven by anger against the government often end up disrupting livelihoods and economic activity across the state.
“Bandhs and blockades create difficulties for working families and affect normal life. Issues should be resolved through discussion and understanding,” he said.
Referring to his recent visits to Jiribam, Singh said communities including Kuki, Paite, Hmar and Meitei residents had maintained cordial relations at the grassroots level despite tensions elsewhere. He stressed the importance of preserving peace and social harmony through cooperation.
The Chief Minister also recalled the April bomb blast at Tronglaobi in Bishnupur district that claimed the lives of two children, saying the incident had deeply affected the state. He added that repeated shutdowns following such incidents had further slowed economic activity and public movement.
Later, in a social media post, Singh said the newly inaugurated bridge in Lamsang Assembly constituency would improve connectivity, ease transportation of goods and strengthen local markets. He added that the government remains focused on expanding road and bridge infrastructure to support development and public welfare across Manipur.
