A Tripura court has summoned TMC leaders, including Abhishek Banerjee, Dola Sen and Kunal Ghosh, in connection with a 2021 case involving alleged misconduct and property damage in Khowai

Agartala: A court in Tripura’s Khowai district has issued summons to several senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders, including Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee, Rajya Sabha MP Dola Sen and party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh, in connection with a case dating back to the party’s political activities in the state in 2021.
According to Public Prosecutor Abhijit Bhattacharjee, the case arose after police detained 14 TMC workers and produced them before a local court during a period of heightened political mobilisation in Tripura.
The prosecution alleges that a group of TMC leaders and supporters subsequently engaged in misconduct with police personnel. The case also includes allegations related to an attempt to damage property at Khowai Police Station. “After examining the case records, the court took cognisance of the matter and initiated proceedings against the accused persons,” Bhattacharjee said.
The matter was placed before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Khowai, which later issued summons directing the accused to appear before the court. The prosecutor noted that former West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu, who was initially named in the case, challenged the proceedings before the High Court and was subsequently discharged.
The court has now fixed June 22 for the personal appearance of the remaining accused. No immediate response was available from the summoned TMC leaders or the party.
