NSCN-IM has urged the Centre to designate Kuki militant groups as terrorist organisations following the recovery of six bodies believed to be abducted Naga hostages, while investigations and identification continue in Manipur
Imphal: The National Socialist Council of Nagaland – Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) has called on the Government of India to outlaw Kuki militant groups and affiliated village volunteers, demanding that they be designated as terrorist organisations following the recovery of six bodies believed to be those of abducted Naga civilians.
In a strongly worded statement, the organisation condemned the alleged killings and the condition in which several bodies were recovered, describing the incident as a “crime against humanity” and urging authorities to bring those responsible to justice. “The deliberate desecration of human bodies serves no purpose other than to spread terror and inflict psychological trauma on families and communities,” the statement said.
The demand comes as the identification process continues at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal, where six recovered bodies were brought following a large-scale search operation. Family members said four bodies had been identified, while DNA verification and post-mortem examinations remain underway.
Relatives alleged that several bodies were found in a severely mutilated condition. One family member, Paisho Thuimai, appealed for justice, stating that the families were “losing hope” after weeks of uncertainty.
Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh and Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam condemned the killings and assured that those responsible would be arrested. The investigation has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
The six individuals were reportedly abducted from Kangpokpi district on May 13. Security has been tightened across affected areas as tensions remain high.
