The Assam government has allotted an alternative two-bigha plot to settle the land issue, clearing a key hurdle for the proposed memorial at Sonapur

Guwahati: The Assam government has resolved the pending land dispute delaying the construction of Zubeen Kshetra at Sonapur, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announcing that the project is expected to receive construction approval within the next 10 days.
Speaking to reporters after Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting, the CM said the dispute involved two bighas of land originally owned by Manoj Agarwala, which fell within the proposed memorial site. The government has allotted him an alternative two-bigha plot at Chandrapur in exchange for the land.
According to the Chief Minister, the absence of proper land documentation had created legal and administrative hurdles, preventing construction from moving forward.
The CM also said the expert committee constituted for Zubeen Kshetra had submitted its blueprint. The project, also referred to as Samadhi Kshetra, is now expected to move towards implementation following the resolution of the land issue.
The tendering process will begin once construction approval is granted, he added. The development is expected to clear a major administrative obstacle for the proposed memorial dedicated to legendary Assamese singer Zubeen Garg.
