Guwahati: Ankita Bharali, daughter of one of the five victims of the October 26 Guwahati shooting, has expressed relief following the death of prime accused Ghanakanta Gogoi in police firing in Sivasagar on Wednesday.

“Today, my family has got justice,” Ankita told reporters, saying her family had been waiting for justice since the shooting at Hotel Bilas Inn. She also thanked those who supported them, particularly Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, for standing by the family.

Gogoi was killed around 3.10 am at Phulpanichiga, near Rongmon Dhaba, under Gaurisagar Police Station limits. According to police, he was being transported from Guwahati in connection with a pending case when he allegedly attacked personnel, attempted to escape and tried to snatch an officer’s service revolver.

Police said three rounds were fired during the ensuing scuffle, injuring a police personnel. Gogoi sustained bullet injuries and was declared brought dead at a hospital.

The October 26 shooting at Hotel Bilas Inn in Guwahati’s Ulubari area claimed five lives, including four members of the Bharali family and their associate Narayan Das, triggering widespread outrage across the city.
