The committee puts programmes scheduled for November 18–20 on hold following concerns raised by the late singer’s family and admirers

Guwahati: The organising committee of the proposed Zubeen Garg Mahotsav has suspended all programmes scheduled for November 18, 19 and 20, citing respect for the sentiments of the late singer’s family and admirers.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the committee said it would not organise any festival-oriented programmes in the future until justice was delivered to Zubeen Garg. The decision followed discussions and consideration of feedback from the singer’s family members, admirers and well-wishers.
Several prominent figures, including Garg’s wife Garima Saikia Garg, Union Minister Pabitra Margherita, singer Manas Robin and All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) president Utpal Sarma, had earlier distanced themselves from the proposed event.
Reiterating its commitment to the singer, the committee said seeking justice was its primary objective and a collective moral responsibility. It added that it had communicated the decision to the public, political parties, organisations and the media through social media platforms.
The organisers said they would continue raising their voice for justice and appealed to people across Assam to understand and support the decision.
