Mahanta approached the Gauhati High Court after a Fast Track Court earlier rejected his bail plea in the high-profile case linked to the death of singer Zubeen Garg

Guwahati: The legal battle in the mysterious death case involving Assamese singer Zubeen Garg has entered a new phase, with accused Shyamkanu Mahanta approaching the Gauhati High Court seeking bail.
Mahanta, who is currently lodged in Baghsa District Jail, filed the bail petition before the High Court on Monday through his counsel. The development comes days after a lower court refused to grant him relief in the case that has drawn widespread public attention across Assam.
Earlier, on April 30, the Fast Track Court of Judge Sharmila Bhuyan had rejected Mahanta’s bail application after hearing arguments from both sides. Following that setback, the accused has now moved the higher judiciary in an attempt to secure release pending investigation.
The case, linked to the alleged mysterious circumstances surrounding Zubeen Garg’s death, continues to remain under intense scrutiny, with investigators examining multiple aspects connected to the incident.
Mahanta is considered one of the key accused in the matter, and his latest legal move is expected to add another significant dimension to the ongoing proceedings.
The Gauhati High Court is likely to hear the bail plea in the coming days.
