Zubeen Garg Case: Siddharth Sharma Denied Bail Over Witness Pressure and Absconding Risk

Bail was rejected after detailed arguments on April 28, with the court noting concerns over appearance and witness pressure

Guwahati: The Special Fast Track Court has rejected the bail application of Siddharth Sharma, bringing a significant development in the ongoing case. The court heard detailed arguments from both sides on April 28, during which extensive submissions were placed before the bench. After the hearing concluded, the court reserved its order for later pronouncement.

Although the order was initially expected on May 2, it could not be delivered on schedule as the court remained closed on that date. The ruling was subsequently pronounced, with the court refusing bail to the accused.

In its observations, the court noted that there was a potential risk of the accused not appearing before proceedings if released on bail. It further recorded apprehensions that the accused might attempt to influence or exert pressure on witnesses connected to the case, which weighed against granting relief.

The court also highlighted that hearings related to framing of charges against all accused had already been completed. In addition, discharge petitions filed by the accused were also heard before the matter was reserved for judgment.

Meanwhile, the Special Fast Track Court is scheduled to resume functioning on May 18 after remaining closed from May 5. On that day, the accused will be produced via video conferencing for the next remand hearing. The court is also expected to deliver its decision on the discharge petitions and framing of charges on May 26.
