The Assam government conferred the State Teachers’ Award 2026 on 15 teachers from 14 districts, recognising their contributions to school education across the state
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reaffirmed the government’s commitment to teachers’ welfare and professional growth on the occasion of Teachers’ Day.
In a social media post, the Chief Minister described teachers as the foundation of a strong society and said his government would continue working to improve their welfare and empower them to perform their duties more effectively.
“Teachers lay the foundation of a strong society and I have always been a vocal supporter of their welfare and growth, despite facing many difficulties,” the Chief Minister said.
Meanwhile, the Assam government conferred the State Teachers’ Award 2026 on 15 teachers from 14 districts on Saturday, marking the 65th Teachers’ Day. The award ceremony was held at the Sri Sri Damodardeva International Auditorium in Guwahati.
The awardees include principals, postgraduate teachers, assistant teachers, head teachers and a headmaster from secondary and elementary education institutions. Nine teachers were selected under the secondary education category and six under elementary education.
Dibrugarh had two award recipients, while the remaining 13 districts had one recipient each. The selections were based on recommendations of the State Level Selection Committee and were subsequently approved by the state government.
Teachers’ Day is observed annually on September 5 to commemorate the birth anniversary of former President and eminent educationist Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
