The student body said it would continue its campaign over the Chakma issue after clashes were reported during a Special Intensive Revision hearing in Changlang district
Itanagar: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) on September 4, warned of further action following violence reported during a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) hearing at Bordumsa in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district.
AAPSU president Meje Taku, general secretary Mato Bui and convenor Tadar Baro said the organisation would continue its campaign over the issue concerning the Chakma community. “They have started the fight, and we will finish it,” Taku said, warning that the union would continue to pursue the matter.
Taku also urged the Home Department not to register FIRs against any AAPSU leader in connection with the Bordumsa incident and subsequent developments. The union is expected to announce its next course of action on September 12.
The warning comes days after violence was reported during proceedings linked to the SIR of electoral rolls. Student organisations have raised objections over the inclusion of Chakma people who they allege entered Arunachal Pradesh after 2006.
The situation reportedly escalated after stone-pelting at the office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner during discussions. Clashes were subsequently reported between members of AAPSU and Chakma organisations, prompting police intervention.
The SIR proceedings have heightened tensions in Changlang, with both sides raising concerns over electoral rights and the status of Chakma residents.
