Congress stages protest over the crackdown on CJP demonstrators, while Rahul Gandhi urges citizens to join the agitation, accusing the Centre of failing India’s students
New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday led a protest near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official residence in New Delhi, demanding the resignations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Home Minister Amit Shah over the police action against Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protesters.
Joined by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, K.C. Venugopal, Pawan Khera and several MPs, Gandhi accused the Centre of refusing to address students’ concerns over alleged examination irregularities and suppressing peaceful protests.
In a post on X, Gandhi appealed to citizens to join the protest, saying, “An attack on students is an attack on every Indian family.” He alleged that the Prime Minister was attempting to evade accountability and asserted that “the voice of India’s students cannot be ignored.”
The protest followed Monday’s clashes during the CJP’s “Chalo Sansad” march, after which Congress leaders alleged they were denied an opportunity to raise the issue in Parliament. Rahul Gandhi later visited injured protesters at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
With the Monsoon Session of Parliament underway, the controversy has intensified the political confrontation between the Opposition and the Centre.
