Air India’s new international services will connect Guwahati directly to the UAE, taking the airport’s overseas network to four countries as Assam eyes stronger global connectivity

Guwahati: Assam is set to strengthen its international air network with the launch of direct flights from Guwahati to Dubai and Abu Dhabi from August 4, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Monday.
The new non-stop services, to be operated by Air India, are expected to enhance connectivity between Assam and the Gulf region while boosting tourism, trade and business opportunities.
Sharing the development on social media, the Chief Minister described the move as another step towards integrating Assam with global markets. “From August 4, Air India will commence direct flights from Guwahati to Dubai and Abu Dhabi,” he said, adding that the services would open new opportunities for travellers and investors alike.
With the addition of the UAE routes, Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport will offer direct connectivity to four countries: the United Arab Emirates, Thailand, Singapore and Bhutan. The Chief Minister said the state is now working towards securing direct air links with Vietnam as part of its broader connectivity strategy.
The announcement comes shortly after several European Union member states eased travel advisories for Assam, a development the state government views as a sign of growing international confidence.
Calling Guwahati a rising gateway to Southeast Asia, the Chief Minister said improved connectivity would support Assam’s efforts to attract more tourists, investments and global engagement in the years ahead.
