North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council Renames as Dima Hasao Autonomous Council in Assam

All NCHAC departments directed to use the new DHAC nomenclature across official communications, records and signage

Guwahati: The North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) in Assam has officially been renamed the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council (DHAC), with all departments instructed to adopt the new nomenclature in official communications and records.

An order issued on Monday by the Office of the Principal Secretary at the Council Secretariat in Haflong directed departments to use “Dima Hasao Autonomous Council” or “DHAC” in official letters, files, notices, orders, seals and signboards.

The directive referred to a notification issued on May 18, 2026, through which the council was renamed from North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council to Dima Hasao Autonomous Council. Council authorities said the latest order was issued to ensure uniformity in the use of the new name across all departments and offices.

The DHAC exercises jurisdiction over the entire Dima Hasao district in central-southern Assam. Its headquarters is located in Haflong, around 330 km from Guwahati. The renaming marks the formal adoption of the council’s new nomenclature across its administrative structure.
