Authorities cite adequate stock, steady demand and strict action against hoarding

Guwahati: The supply of LPG cylinders and petroleum products across Assam remains stable and uninterrupted, officials confirmed on April 17, urging citizens to avoid panic buying.
Addressing a press briefing in Guwahati, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) Executive Director Nitin Bhatnagar said all four refineries in the state are operating normally, ensuring continuous production and distribution. “There is no disruption in the supply chain,” he stated.
At present, Assam has 1,737 fuel outlets, including 1,461 run by Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and 276 private pumps, supported by nine depots. Daily supply stands at around 2,935 kilolitres of petrol and 3,670 kilolitres of diesel, with stock levels sufficient for 21 and 46 days respectively. Officials noted that consumption remains consistent with early 2026 averages, indicating no unusual surge in demand.
Meanwhile, LPG distribution also remains robust. Nearly 93 lakh consumers are served through 604 distributors and seven bottling plants, with about 1.39 lakh refills delivered daily. Authorities said the current backlog of around 4.28 days is being gradually cleared, with no reported shortages.
In addition, the state has intensified enforcement against hoarding and illegal diversion. So far, 319 inspections have led to the seizure of 274 cylinders, one FIR, and three arrests. Disciplinary action has been initiated against erring distributors, with 88 issued notices and six suspended.
Officials also highlighted a sharp rise in digital adoption, with 84 per cent of LPG bookings now online and Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) compliance reaching 72 per cent. The government reiterated that supply remains adequate and urged consumers to rely on official channels for bookings.
