No Evidence Against Arunachal Police in Gumin Mize Arrest Case: Legal Action Initiated Over Threats

Capital Police says allegations against officers were unsupported by evidence; warns against spreading threats and unverified claims on social media

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Capital Police has dismissed allegations against its personnel in connection with the arrest of anti-drug activist Gumin Mize, stating that an internal inquiry found the claims to be “baseless, incorrect and fictitious.”

The inquiry was launched after allegations surfaced following Mize’s arrest on May 20 in connection with a criminal case registered at Assam’s Bihpuria Police Station under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act.

Among the accusations were claims that the Officer-in-Charge of Itanagar Police Station directed an Assam Police officer to assault Mize while in custody and that Arunachal Police transported his vehicle and withheld his arms licence. However, police said a detailed investigation involving witness statements, CCTV footage, digital records and documentary evidence found no material to support those allegations.

According to Capital Police, Superintendent of Police (Capital) Rohit Rajbir Singh personally briefed Mize on the findings and shared the evidence collected during the probe. Police stated that Mize expressed satisfaction with the outcome.

At the same time, authorities raised concern over a series of threatening social media posts targeting police personnel. The posts allegedly included threats to attack Itanagar Police Station, assault officers, burn property and harm family members.

Police said the accounts responsible have been identified and traced, and legal proceedings are already underway. “Any wrongdoing, whether by police personnel or by members of the public, shall be dealt with strictly in accordance with law,” the statement said.
