The BJP candidate expresses confidence in the contest and says voters, including those in minority areas, are seeking development
Nagaon: BJP candidate Devasish Sharma filed his nomination papers on Wednesday for the October 6 Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election in Assam, formally entering the electoral contest after leaving the IAS.
Speaking after filing his nomination, Sharma said he was “absolutely confident” about the BJP’s prospects and expressed confidence in receiving support from voters, including those in minority-dominated areas.
He urged voters to prioritise development and said he believed people were looking beyond “certain sentimental values” that may not serve their long-term interests.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Ripun Bora, who accompanied party candidate Sibamoni Bora during her nomination filing, claimed the BJP could not win Nagaon. He also dismissed AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal as a factor in the contest.
Sharma’s candidature has also drawn scrutiny from Congress MP Rakibul Hussain, who has reportedly approached the Election Commission over election-related actions during Sharma’s tenure as District Election Officer.
