Two civilians were injured in the prolonged attack on three Liangmai Naga villages in Kangpokpi district
Imphal: The Naga Tapon Village Authority has demanded immediate security deployment, compensation and an independent investigation after an armed attack on three Liangmai Naga villages in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district.
The attack began around 3.30 am on Tuesday and continued until about 12.30 pm in Pipuram Makui, Naga Tapon (Old) and Naga Tapon Namsan (New), according to the village authority. Firing stopped after CRPF personnel reached the affected areas.
Pastor Luithuibou Newmai and Tapon Namsan vice-president G. Abonmai sustained injuries, with Newmai reportedly in critical condition.
The authority said at least 28 houses, trucks, two-wheelers, a JCB, a rice mill and church properties were burnt or badly damaged. Food stocks, granaries and household belongings were also destroyed.
The authority claimed more than 300 armed militants were involved and questioned the delayed security response. It also alleged involvement of leaders associated with the Kuki National Organisation and United People’s Front, though the claims could not be independently verified.
It sought permanent security deployment, search operations, a time-bound independent probe, compensation and emergency relief for affected families.
