Unidentified armed men attacked three villages along the Imphal-Tamenglong road, prompting a security operation
Imphal: At least 30 houses were allegedly set ablaze and a villager sustained bullet injuries after unidentified armed men attacked three Liangmai Naga villages in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district early Tuesday, September 1.
The attack took place around 4 am at Tapon Khullen, Tapon Khunou and Makui Pipuram villages along the Imphal-Tamenglong road, according to Kangpokpi police.
Police said the attack was followed by gunfire that continued until around 12.30 pm. The injured villager was identified as 49-year-old N Luithuibou, who sustained bullet injuries to his abdomen and hand. Locals identified him as a church pastor.
An initial assessment found damage to houses, vehicles and other properties. Police later said the exact extent of the damage was still being ascertained.
Additional forces, including the CRPF, its CoBRA unit and Manipur Police, reached the area and launched search operations. The incident came a day after three civilians, including two women, were killed and four injured in an attack on Teikhang Kuki village.
At least 17 people from the Kuki-Zo and Naga communities have reportedly been killed in separate incidents along the corridor since May 13. No group has claimed responsibility for the recent attacks.
