MLA Prasanta Phukan Takes Oath as Ex-Officio Member of Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation

The Dibrugarh MLA said he would continue working for the city’s development and highlighted the role of the Second Capital Region Development Authority in shaping its future

Dibrugarh: Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan on Wednesday took oath as an ex-officio member of the Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation (DMC) at a formal ceremony attended by Mayor Dr. Saikat Patra, Deputy Commissioner Bikram Kairi, ward councillors, senior officials and other dignitaries.

An ex-officio member becomes part of a body by virtue of holding another public office. In municipal corporations, MLAs contribute to policy discussions and help coordinate development initiatives between the state government and local urban bodies.

Expressing gratitude for the reception accorded to him, Phukan thanked the Mayor, district administration, councillors and citizens for their support. He said the new responsibility would strengthen his commitment to public service and inspire him to work with greater dedication for the welfare of the people. “The encouragement received from the people will motivate me to discharge my responsibilities with greater commitment,” Phukan said.

Addressing the gathering, the MLA highlighted the significance of the Second Capital Region Development Authority, established under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, to accelerate Dibrugarh’s development. He said the authority would play a crucial role in shaping the city’s future and expressed gratitude for being entrusted with the responsibility of serving as its ex-officio member.

Officials said his inclusion in the civic body is expected to strengthen coordination between the state government and the municipal corporation, helping advance infrastructure projects, improve civic services and promote sustainable urban development in the city.
