Authorities have enforced restrictions across Kaziranga’s animal corridors until September to ensure safe wildlife movement during the flood season

Guwahati: The Kaliabor Co-District Administration has imposed prohibitory restrictions along the Kaziranga National Park corridor under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, following a rise in water levels caused by continuous monsoon rainfall.
The order, issued by Additional District Magistrate-cum-Co-District Commissioner Raj Boruah, comes after the Divisional Forest Officer of the Eastern Assam Wildlife Division warned that flooding could inundate stretches of National Highway 715 (Old NH-37), prompting wild animals to migrate towards the higher grounds of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council.
To minimise accidents and ensure safe wildlife movement, the administration has imposed several restrictions from June 1 to September 30. Vehicles travelling through the Kaziranga corridor must not exceed 40 kmph. The assembly of five or more persons in designated animal corridors has been prohibited, while parking or halting vehicles along the highway stretch has been banned except in cases of mechanical breakdown.
The use of bright vehicle lights at night, loud music through sound systems, and unnecessary honking within the wildlife corridors has also been prohibited to avoid disturbing animals crossing the highway.
The restrictions apply to the Rangalu-Bagori stretch of NH-715 passing through Kaziranga and have come into immediate effect. However, police, armed forces, forest personnel, ambulances, doctors, and other emergency services have been exempted.
Authorities warned that violations will attract legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with other applicable provisions of law.
